Forty

This tabletop game is a response to an article published on The Telegraph website which claims that a woman is most attractive when she’s exposing only 40% of her body. In each round of the game, players use clothing pieces to dress their gameboard (shaped like the female body) and cards to control their opponents’ gameboards and actions. The cards have comments that I collected from my friends, and online that were directed at women either by catcalling or in conversations with peers or supervisors. Whoever exposes 40%, or the closest to 40%, wins the round. By creating a scenario where people are playing with the female body in order to meet a ridiculous goal, this game raises awareness about how society simultaneously polices and objectifies the female body by imposing ridiculous dress codes for women and creating a culture where people feel comfortable commenting on a woman’s choice of clothing. This policing and objectification dangerously suggests that people have the right to control the female body and thus contributes to rape culture and a lack of understanding about sexual consent.
